My aim for this collection was to draw attention to the beauty of the oceanic ecosystem and its living beings, plants and other natural materials that thrive in healthy oceanic climes. By using found and researched objects as both inspiration for silhouettes, colours, composition, weights and opacities of final garments as well as directly incorporating them into garments I hope to  highlight how important it is for us to preserve our oceans and their surrounding habitations. 

A huge issue for oceans is microplastics and unfortunately many fashion fabrics contain these and are not properly disposed of. My goal would be to fabricate all of my looks with materials that do not contain microplastics and are all recycable & renewable. For example, mycellium, algae etc. However, as a student I have very limited access to such innovative materials and therefore my fabric choices should only be considered in terms of feel, weight, colour and texture instead of content. My dream would be to manufacture my own fabrics using minimal energy &  water in production, as well as organic dyes and no microplastics. I knew that because of this I definitely wanted to include knit and crochet fabrics as there is less fabric waste. Equally, for my wovens I would plan pattern layout to minimise fabric waste. Any leftover fabrics would theoretically be recycable or could be used to produce small accessories such as hair ties.

This collection can be thought of as couture resortwear that is not necessarily meant as active swimwear but a more delicate and thoughtful take on beachwear. My customer would be someone who values fine finishes and small detailed touches who would enjoy relaxing at an oceanfront resort and hopes to keep their garments, as well as ocean ecosystems alive for as long as possible.
